Visitors can enjoy their time meeting and interacting with the African King of Beasts in their natural environment with no leads or collars, whilst learning about the species, and depart with the knowledge that they have actively assisted in the conservation of this magnificent animal.

Lion Encounter has many unique characteristics, from its location in the beautiful African Bush, to its dedicated conservation purpose. Clients and visitors can enjoy their time meeting and interacting with the African King of Beasts in their natural environment, no leads or collars, whilst learning about the species, and depart with the knowledge that they have actively assisted in the conservation of this magnificent animal.

Lion Encounter operates the African Lion and Environmental Research Trust (known as ALERT)’s first stage of its four-stage lion rehabilitation and release into the wild program. The first stage of the program is also known as the Lions “Pre-Release Training” and it involves the lions being taken out into the bush and allowing them get used to their natural surroundings, and build confidence in doing so. By inviting self funded clients, tourists and volunteers to assist in the walks, it not only increases the awareness of the plight of the African Lion, but ensures the project remains possible throughout future stages. Further stages require much fencing, and research equipment and lions alone are costly, ever treated a lion to dinner? Well, let us assure you, they eat a lot!!

We invite you to walk with the king of beasts, have a fantastic time and assist with the conservation of the African Lion…all at the same time!

Rate includes:

Return transfers from all accommodation in Victoria Falls town.
Morning walk ~ full english breakfast, tea and coffee.
Afternoon walk ~ snacks, soft drinks and beers.

Daily departures:

(Varies by season, please confirm)
Morning walk is from 06.30, returning to Victoria Falls town by 10.00.
Afternoon walk is from 15.00, returning to Victoria Falls town by 18.00.

DVDs of your experience and merchandising are for sale so don't forget to bring some cash!

Age and Height Requirements:

Any person under the age of 15, or shorter than 1.5m, will not be able to go on a lion walk. It is possible for persons falling into these categories to participate in a cub encounter instead.
